Ronald McDonald House service.

Angelina shines in service to Ronald McDonald House.

On Saturday, February 21st, the Mayo family and Uncle Greg made a trip down to the Ronald McDonald House which sits a couple of blocks down from the CHKD, where Gabbie spent her short life. Since Gabbie passed, to take the time to serve other hurting families, has been heavy on our hearts and something that we know Gabbie wanted us to do. We know that God was in the midst, as there were originally no families scheduled for this weekend, but in the past week before our planned breakfast/brunch, 10 families had arrived.. God is good. We all manned our stations of bacon and sausage-Josh and myself, pancakes-Angelina and Teresa, eggs, oven roasted potatoes and biscuits-Greg with the help of Angelina and Teresa. We all noticed just how involved and devoted Angelina was to making sure things went well-pulling her weight flipping pancakes, as well! Add fresh fruit and some pastry goodies, juice, coffee and milk and we had a very successful time of serving our fellow families who most all looked worn out and exhausted. We could very much relate to them. We had the opportunity to listen to a couple of people concerning their children-it was heartbreaking. We had invited Gabbie's primary nurses to come join us, but only Nurse Angie could make it. We had a wonderful visit with her-it was really good to see her and hear her talk about her Bible study and how she has shared with others about her relationship with Gabbie. It amazes me how God is still using Gabbie's memory and short lifetime to minister to strangers. Again, God is good.

Birthday Cake Time!

Pizza & hot dogs for the kids, home made chicken quesadillas for the adults. Teresa was busy in the kitchen. (Angelina and friends grabbing a hot dog.)

Pinata Party! The birthday continues!

The final "leg" of the three part birthday for Angelina was this past Friday evening with lots of friends, both kids and adults. Uncle Greg arrived for the weekend and we utilized his expertise at the party and all weekend!

Angelina's Birthday continues all week!

Monday, the 16th was Lina's real birthday, although we have celebrated all week. I guess the family felt like we should do something really special for her, due to the last year of stress and sadness. She chose to go to Cheeseburger in Paradise for quesadillas and mini cheeseburgers, along with a trip to Build-a-bear. We had received two coupons for free bears and a discount ticket, so we were able to pick out a bear for Lila Rose and a dog for Maura as well as the Horse that Angelina chose. Add little tee shirts and they were all adorable! We forgot our camera, so no pics were taken-darn! She seemed to have a wonderful "actual" birthday to top off the weekend of sleepovers-one at home with two friends and one with a friend the next evening. Josh seemed jealous, as he doesn't remember having a week long birthday!

Valentines Day/2009.

Valentines Day in the Mayo house was fairly low key due to the week long celebration of Angelina's birthday continuing this week. We all exchanged small candy boxes and stuffed animal-the usual. From Gabbie, I purchased little birthstone angel pins (tie tac for dad) for each of us, to wear in remembrance. Teresa took a picture of Josh's girls that we have on the wall-I thought this to be a good Valentine pic to share with everyone-since this is a day to show our love. Angelina's actual birthday is tomorrow, February 16th, so look for new pics upcoming this week. Lots of love to my family and friends on this Valentines weekend 2009.

Birthday Dress From the Juedes Family

Auntie Melanie (Shane & Maura too!) sent Angelina a Target gift card, so Angelina had to go shopping! After about an hour or so to deliberate, she decided on a Hello Kitty birthday dress, along with some misc. goodies ie: pink slipper socks and more art supplies. She wore the dress to school the next day and is planning to wear it for her Pinata birthday party planned for this coming Friday night, the 20th. Uncle Greg is flying in that afternoon to join in the festivities-we are always happy to see and visit with him!

Angelina turning 11 years old this week!

My lovely Angelina turns 11 years old this coming week-Monday, February 16th. It doesn't seem possible, as only a short time ago, I was holding her in my arms, rocking her and singing lullabies to her! She started celebrating early-this past Friday evening, with a sleepover. Five friends were invited, but as is usually the case, only two showed up, but they had a blast nonetheless. The family presented her with a Wii system and some extra games, so there was definitely no reason to go anywhere, as Wii was the entertainment of the entire party! Teresa prepared Chicken Quesadillas and the girls made Angelina a birthday cake and stayed up until 2am, so I would say the party was a hit!
